Former Shell Works, Carrington
Spawforths are lead Planning Consultant and Environmental Assessors for the largest brownfield regeneration site within Greater Manchester. The 1600 acre site comprises the former Shell works in Carrington and associated agricultural land. We have led the design team to evolve both a comprehensive masterplan for the whole site and the planning strategy which has led to it being embedded as the largest allocation within the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework. It comprises over 7,000 houses and 8 million ft2 of employment space within a series of new sustainable neighbourhoods.
We have also successfully led the team to secure a hybrid planning permission for the first phase of this new community which comprises 725 dwellings and 1m ft2 of employment space. Spawforths have also obtained Reserved Matters Approval for 277 dwellings and 218,884 sq ft (20,335 sq m) of employment that will deliver high quality jobs. We have therefore unlocked the potential of this strategic brownfield site and regeneration and development of this first phase is now underway.
Spawforths provided Planning, Masterplanning, Environmental Assessment and Consultation services.
