York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority – Housing Growth Strategy
York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority has adopted its new Housing Growth Strategy, setting out an ambitious vision to accelerate housing delivery across the region over the next decade.
The strategy aims to deliver 60,000 new homes by 2035, including at least 25,000 affordable homes, alongside a focus on delivering warm, energy efficient homes and supporting inclusive growth across communities.
Developed collaboratively with local authorities, housing partners and Homes England, the strategy seeks to address key challenges around affordability, infrastructure, investment and housing delivery across both urban and rural areas.
Key priorities include:
- Accelerating housing development and unlocking stalled sites,
- Increasing affordable housing supply across the region,
- Delivering warm and efficient homes,
- Supporting SME housebuilders and sector capacity,
- Maximising the use of public sector land and assets,
- Developing a coordinated regional housing pipeline, and;
- Informing the emerging Spatial Development Strategy for York and North Yorkshire.
While not a statutory planning document, the strategy is expected to help shape the emerging Spatial Development Strategy (SDS), which will establish a shared spatial vision for housing, infrastructure, transport and economic growth across York and North Yorkshire.
The strategy highlights the important role housing delivery will play in supporting sustainable economic growth, placemaking and addressing housing need across the region.
