The Brief
Working on behalf of regeneration specialist, Harworth, Spawforths evolved a masterplan for the re-development of the former Harworth Colliery site which delivered a phased development scheme to allow for the potential re-opening of the colliery albeit on a smaller footprint.
The Challenges
Following extensive engagement with the local community we secured planning permission on the vacant land for nearly 1000 houses, a local supermarket and a major employment park.
The Outcome
As a result of our viability led approach, a new ASDA has now opened and new aspirational houses are being delivered on the site.
Following a subsequent decision to abandon the colliery workings, we worked closely with the local community, through the emerging Neighbourhood Plan to secure an additional 500 – 750 houses.
