Named and inspired by the Queen’s forthcoming Platinum Jubilee in 2022, the new facility will help transform the student experience at the Deane Road campus and deliver a 24hour ‘home from home’ where students can access social learning and support facilities.

The building will provide state-of-the-art wireless IT networking that will facilitate both synchronous and asynchronous broadcasting, ad-hoc tutorials, cross- disciplinary interaction and peer-to-peer learning. Bespoke pods and booths will be provided to create intimate comfortable enclosures for private study.

The floor spaces have been designed to be flexible to enable the University to host a variety of functions such as exhibitions and events.

Town and gown: The site for the new building is at the heart of the University campus within Bolton city centre located on the land occupied by the former sports centre. This is a prominent location on the junction of College Way and Derby Street. It has been designed to strengthen and amplify the University’s status within the city, to attract the best students and to help reinstate circulation routes across the campus.

The building will aim to achieve carbon net zero and provide opportunities for power generation and biodiversity enhancement within the city centre.
