The Brief

Working on behalf of regeneration specialist, Harworth, Spawforths evolved a masterplan for the re-development of the former Harworth Colliery site which delivered a phased development scheme to allow for the potential re-opening of the colliery albeit on a smaller footprint.

The Challenges

Working on behalf of regeneration specialist, Harworth, Spawforths evolved a masterplan for the re-development of the former Harworth Colliery site which delivered a phased development scheme to allow for the potential re-opening of the colliery albeit on a smaller footprint.

The Site was constrained by contaminated land which required remediation, as well as designated heritage assets including listed control tower and operations building.

The Outcome

The planning application was phased to deliver 130 units, access and the development platforms in full, with outline planning for the remaining 230 units. Spawforths also carried out public consultation and key-stakeholder engagement for the project, including arranging a leaflet drop and public event.

Spawforths were successful in delivering the scheme for the client, with planning permission was secured for the hybrid planning permission. Since obtaining planning permission, Spawforths have been working with the developer to discharge pre-commencement conditions for the scheme.
